Published purpose

The project supports the mandate of the United Nations “Data Revolution for Development” Independent Expert Advisory Group. This group of experts from civil society, private sector, academia, governments and international organizations assesses new opportunities linked to data innovation. Activities include: 1) to support and to complement conventional statistical systems; 2) to strengthen accountability at the global, regional and national levels; 3) to advise the United Nations Secretary-General on what the data revolution means in practice, how it can be funded and what institutional and governance implications it entails. Support for the data revolution and strengthened statistical systems are a tangible demonstration of Canada's interest in a strong accountability agenda for Post-2015 Agenda. Canada is a member of the Advisory Group through the participation of Mr. Wayne Smith, Canada's Chief Statistician.
