Right To Play

Published purpose

The project will support the empowerment of adolescent girls and young women in Thiès, Ziguinchor, Kolda and Sédhiou, regions which are still characterized by high levels of child, early and forced marriage (CEFM), early pregnancies, gender-based violence including female genital mutilation (FGM), girls dropping out of school, and sexually transmitted infections in women. Right To Play and its implementing partners will use sport and play as a form of experiential learning to develop critical life skills such as leadership, communication and self-esteem in 10,320 adolescent girls (7,740) and boys (2,580) that will support enhanced agency in girls and positive masculinity in boys. The project will also work with both local non-governmental and community-based organizations to directly address critical human rights issues facing girls through girls’ enhanced knowledge about and increased community support for sexual and reproductive health and rights, and prevention, response, and referral pathways for child protection, including gender-based violence.
