Published purpose
April 2024 – An estimated 300 million people worldwide need humanitarian assistance and protection due to ongoing conflicts, natural disasters and disease outbreaks. In response to humanitarian needs, Global Affairs Canada’s (GAC) humanitarian assistance provides predictable, multi-year, and multi-country support to longstanding partners in protracted humanitarian contexts globally. With GAC’s support, Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE) Canada aims to provide assistance to address the urgent needs of 310,929 beneficiaries in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia and Yemen. This project focuses on improving access to health care, including sexual and reproductive health, gender-sensitive nutrition services and survivor-centered protection services for people affected by conflict, situations of violence and other emergencies each year. Project activities include: (1) providing gender-sensitive health services; (2) providing nutrition services including detection and treatment of acute malnutrition; and (3) establishing and supporting women and girls’ safe spaces.
