Published purpose

This project aims to improve women’s health by increasing the uptake of cervical cancer screening in Paramaribo, Suriname. The project achieves this by addressing the misconceptions that prevent women from undergoing regular screening, and by providing cervical cancer screening in underserved areas. Project activities include: (1) coordinating focus groups to identify barriers that prevent Surinamese women from accessing available cervical cancer prevention services; (2) developing a health promotion campaign to increase awareness and acceptability of cervical cancer prevention; and (3) organizing cervical cancer screening clinics. This project is part of the Local Engagement and Action Fund (LEAF) that supports civil society and local organizations across the Caribbean to implement initiatives that respond to local needs and advance the aims and strategic objectives of Canada’s Caribbean Regional Development Program.
