Published purpose

This project promotes inclusivity, equality, and social justice for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans (LGBT) people in Suriname. This project achieves this by increasing awareness about LGBT persons and their rights, providing legal assistance, and building organizational capacity.?Project activities include: (1) developing campaigns to raise awareness and increase the social acceptance of LGBT persons in Suriname; (2) organizing a Pride Walk; (3) supporting access to health, mental health, and social services for LGBT persons; (4) providing capacity building to LGBT organizations; and (5) partnering with legal organizations and experts to support and advise in legal cases. ? This project is part of the Local Engagement and Action Fund (LEAF) that supports civil society and local organizations across the Caribbean to implement initiatives that respond to local needs and advance the aims and strategic objectives of Canada’s Caribbean Regional Development Program.
