Published purpose

This project aims to strengthen Jordan’s and neighbouring countries’ or territories’ security by improving the security screening capabilities and infrastructure at the King Hussein Bridge (KHB) which connects Jordan and the West Bank. Through the Counter-Terrorism capacity building program’s support, the United Nations office on drugs and crime seeks to strengthen the technical and operational capacity of Jordanian law enforcement, intelligence services, and border security officials operating at the KHB. Project activities include: (1) upgrading infrastructure, equipment, and software at the KHB to ensure security authorities are properly equipped to undertake security screening operations in line with international best practices and standards; (2) providing training and technical assistance to security entities at the bridge to help them investigate security issues, monitor surveillance, and screen passenger and cargo; and (3) reinforcing existing cooperation between security authorities by facilitating interagency working groups and regional conferences to share best practices.
