Published purpose
This grant represents Canada’s long-term institutional support to CGIAR. CGIAR uses these funds and other donors’ funding to achieve its mandate, which is to reduce poverty and hunger, improve human health and nutrition, and enhance ecological resilience through high-quality international agriculture research, partnership and leadership. Project activities of CGIAR include: supporting the resilient, low-emission farms, landscapes, and aquatic resources of 38 million small-scale producers and value chain actors; development of 100 climate and sectoral policies; supporting investment of USD 15 billion; and contributing to emissions reductions or removal of 1 gigaton of CO2e by supporting equitable mitigation action at scale. This will be enabled by efforts across 5 interdependent areas of work (AoW): Prioritization and coordination of climate action; Digital advisories and climate risk management; Locally led adaptation; Low-emission transitions; and Policy and Finance.
