Published purpose

October 2025 – Hurricane Melissa made landfall as a catastrophic Category 5 storm in southwestern Jamaica on October 28, 2025, and as a powerful Category 3 storm in eastern Cuba the following day. The hurricane caused widespread flooding, damage and destruction to infrastructure, as well as displacement in Jamaica and Cuba. With GAC’s support, CARE Canada helps provide emergency shelter, essential relief items, multipurpose cash assistance, as well as water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services to the most vulnerable households affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and Cuba. Project activities include: (1) distributing shelter and relief items to affected households; (2) providing services in the water, sanitation and hygiene sector; and (3) providing multipurpose cash assistance (Jamaica only).
