Published purpose

This grant represents Canada's support to the Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Program of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). It is part of a larger contribution to the United Nations, which supports the filling of up to 20 positions with young Canadian professionals. UNHCR is using these funds to recruit and appoint up to four young Canadians, allowing them to gain professional on-the-ground experience in international development and also to help the organization fulfill its mandate and achieve its Sustainable Development Goals. UNHCR's mandate is to lead and coordinate international action to protect refugees. Its work is essential to global efforts to help refugees and find solutions for refugees and other forcibly displaced people around the world.
