Published purpose

This project aims to advance low-carbon, climate-resilient, and gender-responsive economic development in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). It focuses on providing tailored financing and technical assistance to climate finance companies and projects in sectors such as clean energy, green finance, sustainable agriculture, housing, forestry, transportation and the circular economy. This initiative is part of the Inclusive Climate Action Fund (ICAF), which operates as a Canadian investment vehicle that provides capital to small and medium-sized companies and financial institutions in developing countries in LAC to support climate mitigation and adaptation. The technical assistance facility of ICAF promotes a gender-responsive, nature-positive, and intersectional approach to catalyze inclusive investment, enhance climate mitigation and adaptation opportunities, and amplify biodiversity co-benefits. This is done through policies, practices, and community engagement initiatives that support equitable conservation of local ecosystems. Project activities include: (1) providing investment readiness support to improve the viability of low-carbon, climate-resilient solutions and attract private investment; (2) supporting companies to design gender-responsive products and services, strengthen gender-smart business practices, and enhance social and environmental impacts; and (3) developing systems for impact measurement and evaluation to track social, environmental, and gender outcomes from baseline to investment exit.
