Published purpose

The Project is a national initiative delivered across eight components over six fiscal years as part of a broader effort implemented by the Inter-Council Network (ICN), a coalition of eight provincial and regional councils for international cooperation. As one component of this larger initiative, the Project strengthens public engagement on global issues and supports the contribution of people across Canada to international cooperation efforts. The Project supports people in Saskatchewan in deepening their awareness of global issues and Canada’s international development assistance through coordinated outreach, capacity-building, and youth engagement. It reaches communities that are often underserved by centralized engagement models, including newcomers, Indigenous peoples, diaspora communities, small and medium organizations (SMOs), and rural populations. The Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation (SCIC) works with civil society stakeholders to foster leadership through dialogue, programming, and public engagement that contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Project activities include: (1) strengthening public awareness of global issues and the SDGs in Saskatchewan by delivering engagement initiatives, media and storytelling outreach, in-depth discussions and conferences, and International Development Week (IDW) events that highlight diverse perspectives; (2) fostering awareness, collaboration, and leadership among Saskatchewan youth, including Indigenous youth, by creating opportunities to build knowledge and skills on global issues, supporting youth access to resources and co-led programming, and nurturing youth-driven networks and initiatives; and (3) enhancing the motivation and participation of Saskatchewan educators in global citizenship education by providing curriculum-aligned resources, delivering training for pre-service and in-service teachers, including French-language educators and implementing inclusive engagement strategies that broaden the reach of global citizenship education across the province.
