Published purpose
May 2026 – A rapidly growing Ebola disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda has prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare it a public health emergency of international concern. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has launched a regional emergency appeal in response to the epidemic. With the support of Global Affairs Canada, the Canadian Red Cross Society will support the efforts of national Red Cross societies to provide lifesaving Ebola prevention and response, as outlined in the IFRC’s emergency appeal focusing on: health services including contract tracing and screening; infection prevention and control measures; sanitation and hygiene interventions; as well as community engagement.
