Published purpose

The project is a follow up study to the groundbreaking 1996 Graca Machel Report - The Impact of Armed Conflict on Children, which was endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in August 1997. The Strategic Review is prepared for the 62nd session of the General Assembly. The research project seeks to review the multi-stakeholder mobilization and momentum generated by the original 1996 Machel Study. The 2007 Review reframes action on children and armed conflict in view of UN reform and changes in the policy environment. More specifically, the project assesses progress and provides forward-looking opportunity to identify emerging challenges, new threats and priorities. This is key to developing comprehensive strategies and frame recommendations, through inter-governmental and other processes, for the future of the Children and Armed Conflict Agenda.
