Published purpose

This grant represents Canada's institutional support to the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) Secretariat's Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas in 2008. The Platform is expected to evolve as the main regional mechanism for guiding the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) in the Americas. The event aims to increase the profile of disaster risk reduction as an integral aspect of sustainable development and provide practical guidance for nations and communities to reduce disaster risk. The first meeting aims to : assess regional progress made in implementation of the HFA; share experiences and learn from good practice; identify gaps and actions to accelerate national and local implementation in the region; foster cooperation in cross-boundary disaster risk reduction issues and priorities; identify regional indicators and trends, and strengthen the mechanisms for reporting on progress being made in the Americas.
