Published purpose

The mission of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national actors in order to coordinate humanitarian response, advocate humanitarian issues and humanitarian policy development. OCHA's 2008 appeal for headquarters activities includes support to executive management, emergency response coordination, policy devleopment and advocacy in information management. OCHA's strategic goals for 2008 are: (1) Consolidated humanitarian reform that ensures adequate and relevant humanitarian response; (2) Recognized leadership role in humanitarian policy and advocacy; and (3) A more effective and efficient organization. With CIDA support, OCHA aims to ensure countries affected by emergencies receive adequate international humanitarian assistance, it ensures that international policies and instruments are translated into effective regional national action plans and the continued quality of human resources and predictable, needs-based humanitarian financing system.
