Published purpose
Since October 2007, Southern Africa has experienced early and unusually heavy rains, which have damaged homes and crops of an estimated 449,000 people throughout the region. CIDA's contribution is used to help the World Food Programme (WFP) address the emergency food aid needs of flood-affected populations in Malawi, and to help reduce rates of malnutrition and disease, particularly among the most vulnerable groups such as female-headed households. This operation is expected to reach an estimated 220,000 beneficiaries.
