Published purpose

ALNAP was established in 1997, following the multi-agency evaluation of the Rwanda genocide. It is a collective response by the humanitarian sector, dedicated to improving humanitarian performance through increased learning and accountability. ALNAP seeks to improve humanitarian action through research, learning, promoting participation of crisis-affected populations in research, and advancing guidance on protection. In 2008-2009 ALNAP is: Promoting the utilization of evaluations in order to improve take up and actions emanating from evaluation findings and recommendations. Continuing the distribution of ALNAP Bulletin - a bi-monthly email bulletin to keep members informed of news and events and improve ALNAP website. Publishing and distributing ALNAP's 8th Review of Humanitarian Action; Gap-filling study, real-time evaluations and Study on Consultation with and Participation by Affected Communities in Humanitarian Action. Improving the accessibility of the Evaluative Reports Database (ERD) and creation of online modules with training materials on Evaluation of Humanitarian Action. Holding regular meetings, including biannual meetings (4-5 June in Madrid; 3-4 December in Berlin), external meetings and quality and accountability initiatives.
