Published purpose
The frequency and impact of natural and man-made disasters over the last few years has made the need apparent to strengthen the capacity of countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to prepare and respond to emergencies. The objective of this trilateral cooperation project with the United States and Mexico is to increase the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies' Pan American Disaster Response Unit's (PADRU) capacity to respond quickly and efficiently to disasters at the regional and continental levels by increasing their stockpile of standard kits of emergency relief assistance. Using the trilateral funds, PADRU procures, stocks, and stores 20,000 mosquito nets, 10,000 kitchen sets, 10,000 hygiene kits and 5,000 blankets, which help meet the basic needs of 10,000 families. CIDA's contribution also supports transport, general logistics and operating costs, as well as the deployment of trained regional personnel to the affected areas.
