Published purpose

Following the recommendations of the second Millennium Development Goal (MDG 2), the Education For All – Fast Track Initiative (EFA-FTI) was launched in 2002 as the first-ever global compact on education with the aim of helping low-income countries accelerate progress towards universal primary education. In September 2011, the EFA-FTI changed its name to the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). This grant represented Canada’s institutional support to the EFA-FTI. The EFA-FTI Secretariat used these funds, along with other donors’ funding, to achieve its mandate. In 2011, the GPE streamlined financial support to the Secretariat, the Catalytic Fund (education plan implementation investments) and Education Program Development Fund (education plan development investments) into one fund, the GPE Fund, which reduces the administrative burden for both the GPE Secretariat and donors. To reflect this change, CIDA has rolled the EFA-FTI Institutional Support (project M-013087-001) into the Global Partnership for Education (project M-013033-001).
