Published purpose
The World Food Programme's (WFP) Protracted Relief and Recovery Operation for Sri Lanka aims to save lives and protect livelihoods of vulnerable conflict-affected populations in Northern Sri Lanka. The principal programming activity is distribution of targeted food assistance. Other activities include: food for work or training that concentrate on livelihoods and household food security. Specific needs of children and women are being addressed through food for education, mother-and-child health and nutrition activities. CIDA's allocation helps meet urgent food assistance needs, thereby helping to mitigate and prevent hunger, and assist in the protection of livelihoods.
