Published purpose

This contribution represents Canada’s institutional support to the ninth replenishment of the Asian Development Fund (ADF), of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Established in 1973, the Asian Development Fund provides low interest rate loans and grants to the poorest countries in the Asia-Pacific region. For the period 2009-2012, these funds were used for infrastructure, policy support and reform, health and education, environmentally sustainable investments, good governance and capacity building for development management, and regional cooperation. Canada is the 5th largest non-borrowing shareholder of the Asian Development Bank (as of December 2011) and is the 6th largest contributor overall to the Asian Development Fund.
