Published purpose
This project aims to improve health outcomes in rural communities, and especially among poor and marginalized women and girls, by applying a gender-responsive One Health approach to preventing and responding to endemic zoonotic diseases. Project activities include: (1) conducting community-level awareness-raising campaigns about climate-smart One Health approaches to disease prevention and control; (2) providing technical support and small grant funding to cooperatives and entrepreneur groups on climate-smart One Health production; (3) providing training on the rapid alert and detection of disease to key community stakeholders; (4) providing training on the effective response, control and mitigation of endemic zoonotic diseases to health workers, veterinarians and environmental workers; and (5) supporting the development of One Health knowledge hubs in Ethiopia and Kenya Alinea International implements this project in collaboration with Farmers Helping Farmers, the University of Guelph, the University of Calgary, the University of Saskatchewan, the University of Prince Edward Island and various local organizations (public, private and non-governmental) in Ethiopia and Kenya.
