Published purpose

The mission of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national actors in order to coordinate humanitarian response, advocate for humanitarian issues and contribute to humanitarian policy development. In 2010, OCHA focuses on implementing its new 2010-2013 Strategic Framework in support of its overall objective to mobilize and coordinate effective and principle humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to: alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate for the rights of people in needs; promote preparedness and prevention; and facilitate sustainable solutions. To this end, OCHA focuses on three main goals: (1) a more enabling environment for humanitarian action; (2) a more effective humanitarian coordination system; (3) strengthened OCHA management and administration. CIDA's support facilitates the continued effectiveness of coordinated humanitarian action, advocacy for the needs of crisis-affected populations and ensure policy dialogue on evolving humanitarian issues.
