Published purpose

October 6, 2009 - Typhoon Ketsana hit the Philippines on September 26, causing massive destruction and flooding in Manila and other areas. As of October 6, an estimated 3.9 million people have been affected, while 295 are dead and 39 missing. This project allows Development and Peace to provide essential non-food items (cooking household items, mosquito nets, blankets, toiletries, etc.) to Typhoon Ketsana victims in Philippines' Central and Southern Luzon Regions, in order to improve their physical security and maintain or improve health. Non-food item distribution is carried out outside metro Manila in areas where access and coverage by humanitarian organizations is limited. During this three-month project, essential non-food items are distributed to 5,500 families.
