Published purpose

March 12, 2010 - More than four decades of internal violence in Colombia have resulted in the displacement of more than three million persons. The Department of Meta has been particularly affected by political violence in recent years and as a result, numbers of displaced persons from Meta have risen sharply. The objective of this project is to increase conflict-affected populations' access to primary health care in Colombia. Through this project, Médecins du Monde aims to set up emergency mobile health clinics to cover 19 service points in the Department of Meta. These clinics provide basic emergency medical services to 70 conflict-affected communities located in isolated areas of the country, where very few humanitarian organizations are operational. Project activities include basic medical consultations, monitoring the health status of children and pregnant women, and producing epidemiological studies of areas where Médecins du Monde is operational.
