Published purpose

October 5th, 2010 - Pakistan is experiencing its worst monsoon flooding in at least 80 years. Government estimates put the number of people affected by the floods at 21 million. Millions of people have been displaced and over 1.8 million houses have been either damaged or destroyed. Assessments to establish the degree to which affected populations are in need of immediate humanitarian assistance continue. Through this project, CIDA is supporting Save the Children Canada to ensure the survival, protection and food security of flood-affected farming households in Pakistan. Specific activities include the provision of agricultural inputs (seeds, fertilizer, and tools) to vulnerable families; the prevention of livestock losses through the provision of veterinary services; the delivery of agriculture training services to flood-affected families; and the provision of financial support to flood-affected households to ensure children are removed from harmful labour practices.
