Published purpose

December 13, 2010 - An unusually severe rainy season in Colombia that began in April 2010 has resulted in countrywide landslides and flooding. These events have resulted in over 250 deaths and have affected over 1.9 million people in 665 municipalities. Additionally, approximately 3,000 houses have been destroyed and 296,000 damaged. CIDA is assisting Save the Children Canada to support the health, well-being and protection of flood-affected children and their families through providing potable water and hygiene kits and delivering water purification services. Further, Save the Children supports flood-affected children in returning back to school. Specific activities include: the provision of hygiene kits, water storage containers and the establishment of community water purification points; ensuring the availability of potable water in select schools, community areas, and child-friendly spaces; and delivering basic school supplies and suitable clothing to protect children from further flooding and rain.
