Published purpose

December 13, 2010 - An unusually severe rainy season in Colombia that began in April 2010 has resulted in countrywide landslides and flooding. These events have resulted in over 250 deaths and have affected over 1.9 million people in 665 municipalities. Additionally, approximately 3,000 houses have been destroyed and 296,000 damaged. Through this project, CIDA supports Oxfam-Quebec in reducing the vulnerability to illnesses of rural families in four Colombian municipalities severely affected by the flooding through ensuring access to safe water, basic sanitation and hygiene promotion. Specific activities include: the distribution of domestic water filtration systems, purification chemicals, hygiene kits and water containers; the rehabilitation of community water systems; the implementation of safe waste disposal systems; and, the delivery of hygiene promotion training programs.
