Published purpose

21 March 2011 - The deterioration of the humanitarian situation in a number of countries in the Asia-Pacific region has resulted in increased needs on the part of conflict-affected people, as well as an increased burden on local health facilities and local providers of humanitarian assistance. CIDA's contribution is supporting the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to help meet the immediate needs of conflict-affected populations and the resident communities sheltering them. Specific project activities include the: provision of emergency health and surgical services; distribution of shelter materials and urgent relief items; provision of clean drinking water and sanitation facilities; promotion of international humanitarian law and humanitarian principles; and building the capacity of national chapters of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement to respond to humanitarian crises.
