Published purpose

14 October 2011 - Torrential monsoon rains in August and September triggered extensive flooding in Sindh and Balochistan provinces, Pakistan. Based on an initial assessment of the situation, the United Nations estimates that approximately 5.8 million people have been affected by the floods, and about 1.8 million people have been displaced from their homes. The flood-affected population is in immediate need of food assistance, emergency shelter and household items, clean water and sanitation, basic health care, and, support for the prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition among children and pregnant/breastfeeding women. CIDA’s contribution is helping Save the Children Canada meet the emergency survival, safety and physical security needs of approximately 3,200 families (25,200 people) in Sindh Province through the provision of emergency shelter kits to 3,000 displaced families, and the one-time provision of food vouchers to 1,200 particularly vulnerable women to enable them to meet the emergency needs of their families.
