Published purpose

With Canada’s support, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) provides humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations in Senegal (258,000 beneficiaries), Burkina Faso (120,000 beneficiaries), Mali (142,000 beneficiaries) and The Gambia (34,668 beneficiaries). In response to the food and nutrition crises in these Sahelian countries, the IFRC is implementing a twin-track approach, focussing on life-saving interventions but also providing support for livelihoods and resilience projects. Activities include: food security programming (food vouchers, cash-for-work); nutrition screening of infants and water and hygiene promotion initiatives; and support for seed banks and communal gardens. The IFRC works in partnership with the National Red Cross or Red Crescent Societies in Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali and The Gambia to respond to humanitarian needs in these four countries.
