January 28, 2013 - With Canada's support, Handicap International is providing emergency maternal and newborn healthcare services in Mopti, the region hosting the largest number of people internally displaced as a result of the conflict in northern Mali. Handicap International and local partners are providing support for maternal and newborn health services in 16 health districts covering the needs of an estimated 124,000 persons by: establishing 7 mobile emergency obstetrics teams; conducting maternal and newborn health promotion at the community level; providing training for staff at healthcare centres; and supporting income-generating activities for 100 vulnerable women.
