Published purpose
March 2013 - Approximately 750,000 people are currently displaced from their homes due to conflict and insecurity in Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas. While some of the displaced people are living in formal displacement camps, the vast majority of the displaced population are living in impoverished host communities in neighbouring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. With Canada's support, CARE Canada is addressing the basic needs of approximately 48,570 conflict-affected internally displaced people and their host communities in Nowshera and Peshawar districts, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. Project activities include the deployment of two mobile health units and support to three existing Basic Health Units in areas where there are large numbers of displaced people. In addition, the project will help selected beneficiaries address their immediate livelihood needs through the provision of conditional cash grants and cash-for-work opportunities. With the cash grants or income earned through cash-for-work, beneficiaries will be able to purchase fresh food, clothing and essential household items.
