The International Organization for Migration's (IOM) mandate is to: ensure the orderly and humane management of migration; promote international cooperation on migration; assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems; and, provide humanitarian assistance to targeted displaced populations. IOM's humanitarian activities include: the provision of emergency services and protection assistance to displaced and returnee households; assisting governments and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to implement third country refugee resettlement programmes; providing assistance to refugees who wish to voluntarily repatriate to their countries of origin; and, facilitating the orderly return and reintegration of internally displaced people.
