Published purpose

This project seeks to improve the availability of quality health services for women and children in southern Mali by building, repairing, and equipping health centres. The project aims to resume work that was interrupted by the coup d'état in March 2012 in order to address health care needs that have become more critical as a result of the political and humanitarian crisis in the country. Some project activities include : (i) completing the construction of targeted district health centres and community health centres, in southern Mali, with a specific focus on Kayes region; (ii) completing the rehabilitation of targeted district health centres and community health centres, in southern Mali, particularly in Kayes region; and (iii) supplying medical equipment (such as ambulances, ultrasound equipment, child delivery tables, solar vaccine refrigerators, stethoscopes, and thermometers) to targeted district health centres and to over one hundred community health centres in southern Mali, especially in Kayes region. These activities aim to ensure that targeted district and community health centres are able to provide essential health services, especially for mothers and children. This project is managed by the Government of the Netherlands. Canada's contribution covers activities in southern Mali, with a specific focus on Kayes region.
