Published purpose
March 2015 –Niger is facing a number of humanitarian challenges , including food insecurity, malnutrition, population displacement, epidemics and natural disasters. Due to security concerns in Mali, the return of Malian refugees has largely ceased, with 50,000 Malian refugees still residing in Niger. In addition, worsening security and cholera outbreaks in the north east of Nigeria have resulted in the displacement of 105,000 people to Niger and additional influxes are expected in 2015. With DFATD’s support, CARE Canada is addressing the urgent needs of 18,000 Nigerians fleeing violence in North-eastern Nigeria as well nd host communities in Diffa, Niger. Activities include: (1) provision of safe drinking water and sanitation facilities; (2) construction of shelters; and (3) provision of seeds and tools.
