Published purpose
The project aims to improve environmental sustainability through organic farming practices and to improve the quality of life of families of landless small producers living in Brazil’s poorest areas. It is designed to strengthen the knowledge and capacities related to organic farming (use of fertilizers, composting, seed improvement, crop rotation, drip irrigation, silage) of 450 families of landless farmers in the states of Bahia, Ceara, Pernambuco, and Rio Grande do Sul. The project offers training in management of agricultural initiatives, project management, and conflict resolution. It also supports networking with organic farmers in other states and helps to improve the premises of two agricultural training centres. This is one of two components of a project valued at $389,844. The first part has been completed.
