Published purpose

The project contributes to integrated sustainable development for the Kabore Tambi National Park Region targeting social, economic and environmental issues. It aims to ensure better availability of food during the season of scarcity through the creation of new market gardens, and to enhance food security for the families. There are three specific objectives: (1) contributing to changing the mentalities of the populations of Nahouri and Zoundweego regarding the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources; (2) enhancing living conditions and environment for shoreline residents of the Kabore Tambi National Park; and (3) ensuring sustainable use of natural resources by strengthening the capacity of two local non-governmental organizations, the Ga Mo Wigna and Weog La Vim associations. The project emphasizes activities linked to soil conservation, organic agriculture and strengthening of capacities to contribute to reducing environmental degradation and improving nutrition and revenues of the beneficiaries. It also supports the creation of village committees for the management of community gardens. This is one of two components of a project valued at $497,436. The first part has been completed.
