Published purpose
The program is helping to enhance the capacity of partner organizations in delivering quality basic education and life skills programs to marginalized youth in seven communities. Activities include the professional development of primary teachers in how to teach literacy, youth life skills programs as a prerequisite to vocational training, recreational and cultural activities for youth, and skills training for parents. Also, Jamaican Self-Help (JSH) organizes Canadian youth leadership tours to Jamaica that contribute to program achievements. Educational tours of Jamaican youth in Canada develop their leadership skills. The presence of Jamaican youth in Canada also enhances the awareness of development issues in education among the Canadian public.
