Published purpose

The program aims to increase awareness and reduce the incidence of corruption, and improve standards of governance and levels of transparency globally. To achieve this, Transparency International focuses on: (i) creating and improving tools for measuring levels of corruption; (ii) supporting and increasing the capacity of Transparency International national chapters that are best placed to adapt the organization's work to country circumstances; (iii) improving public awareness and pressure for action through publications and media and public affairs campaigns; (iv) creating and supporting Advocacy and Legal Advice Centres to inform citizens of their rights and to help empower civil society to monitor and advocate for reforms; (iv) enhancing the availability and effectiveness of its extranet portal for sharing best practices among national chapters and other organizations working to reduce corruption. Through its 100 chapters and contact points around the world, Transparency International works to combat corruption at international, national and local levels, working with relevant players from government, civil society, business and the media to promote transparency and accountability in both public and private sectors, electoral processes, public administration, procurement and contracting.
