Published purpose

The project aims to implement a functional vocational school in Rivière Froide that offers 4 training programs to inhabitants of the 13 communes within Carrefour. The school, attached to the school premises of the Congregation of the Petites Soeurs de St.Thérèse, enables 100 young women, men and people with disabilities to develop their knowledge and skills by learning a trade that helps to improve their social and economic situation. Activities include: (i) building a school resistant to earthquakes and accessible to persons with disabilities, (ii) providing equipment and educational materials, (iii) developing curricula, (iv) hiring teachers, and (v) selecting students and starting their training. Main expected results include: (i) 500 students gain knowledge and skills in one of the 15 trades taught, (ii) an improved education level of the Carrefour population, (iii) decreased rural depopulation of the workforce to Port-au-Prince and the Dominican Republic, (iv) reinforced local economic development by a specialized and trained workforce, and (v) an increased employment rate. Local Partner: the Congregation of the Petites Soeurs de Sainte-Thérèse.
