Published purpose

The Nahr el-Bared Palestinian refugee camp was destroyed during the 2007 conflict in Northern Lebanon, displacing 27,000 refugees. CIDA's contribution, along with that of other donors, helped the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) maintain its humanitarian assistance program for the Palestinian refugees displaced. Specifically, this project helped refugee families obtain food, water, shelter, education, health care services, temporary employment and other relief items and services. UNWRA also repaired and upgraded buildings and other infrastructure in the communities surrounding the camp. In addition, psychological and recreational services were provided for children and youth, to help mitigate the psychological effects of the conflict.
