Published purpose

This project aims to improve the resilience of Palestinian women, men and children, by helping approximately 3,150 conflict-affected households in the West Bank and Gaza access safe, sufficient and nutritious food. The project seeks to improve the ability of poor families in 26 communities (18,900 people, at least 9,450 of whom are women) to produce and buy the food they need to live healthy lives. Some project activities include: (i) providing training to small-scale farmers on income-generating activities; (ii) raising awareness of good farming practices; and (iii) increasing the opportunities for women to make a sustainable living. The project seeks to strengthen the ability of the women most vulnerable to poverty to generate income and improve their access to services, such as credit, and markets. The project seeks to increase women’s knowledge of relevant livelihood skills and improve their limited access to, and control over, productive assets. This project is one of over 140 projects that make up the United Nations' 2013 Consolidated Appeal Process (CAP) for the West Bank and Gaza. The 2013 CAP, worth over US$374 million, allows the international community to help mitigate the worst effects of the ongoing crisis for Palestinian civilians. Delivered through a coordinated approach, the CAP provides humanitarian assistance in the essential areas of food, water, health, and nutrition and by increasing the protection of civilians.
