Published purpose

The Inuit Art Foundation is working to increase community access to Inuit artistic heritage. This project will enable the organization to digitally preserve images and documentation of Inuit art, artists, communities, gatherings and cultural history, and make them accessible to the public, and in particular, to the Inuit themselves. The archive consists of slides, photographs and negatives of artwork, artists, Inuit communities and significant gatherings in the contemporary development of Inuit art. It is comprised of over 40,000 slides, photographs, negatives and contact sheets depicting artwork, artists, communities and events from every community in Inuit Nunangat (Inuit regions) between 1965 and 2005.
