Published purpose

CHPF houses an extensive archive of over 100,000 photographic images by Canadian photographers. It is the aim of the Foundation to digitize and preserve the negatives, slides and prints in the archive and freely disseminate these images to the public. In 2001, George Hunter and his colleagues formed the CHPF with the intent to promote and preserve Canadian photography. In celebration of this twenty-year anniversary, some of the CHPF founding members have donated photographic negatives, prints or slides to the archive. As such, CHPF is proposing to digitize 4000 of these images to preserve them for future generations.
