Published purpose

High blood pressure is the leading cause of death/disability in the world. Many patients are undiagnosed and/or uncontrolled. The best way to monitor high BP is to do many readings in the ‘home’ (or individual’s usual) environment. However, barriers exist to the proper use of home BP monitoring. We have built a BP telemonitoring system that addresses many of these barriers. It collects BP readings and summarizes them in a guideline-concordant manner. The purpose of the present application is to build on this foundation and use the data collected to create an autonomously functioning computerized system that diagnoses and manages BP. The system is ideal for areas of low specialist access such as rural communities or space missions.
