Published purpose
This Project is a collaboration between York University and the NRC to explore simulation in friction stir welding. A major limitation with any simulation is the large computational and human time needed. This problem is exacerbated when used for design, as the simulation must be run many times to effectively explore the design space. The Project will extend reduced order modelling from a two-dimensional to a three-dimensional system, leveraging the models and experience developed for friction stir welding. It will then adapt and apply the method to one or more applications of interest (i.e. health, energy materials and/or nanophotonics) within the AI4D program.
