Published purpose

UK AgTech consortium project 68296 led by Innovasea Marine Systems Canada Ind. (CANADA) in collaboration with R.S. Aqua Ltd (UK) and Grieg Seafood Shetland Ltd (UK) will aim to reduce the environmental impact of salmon farming, improve fish health and welfare, and enhance farm productivity by developing an early warning system for plankton monitoring on aquaculture farms. Large harmful algae blooms (HABs) can cause catastrophic fish-kill events. Small localized HABs can negatively impact production by contributing to complex gill disease, one of the most important health issues in Scottish aquaculture today. By employing new technological and data-driven approaches to environmental monitoring, we will be able to reduce losses due to such events on salmon farms and increase productivity levels without the addition of substantial resources.
