Published purpose
This project is about the integration of a robot with a Laue instrument to handle and place jet engine turbine blades for the measurement of single crystal orientation using the Laue x-ray diffraction technique. The integration of a robot will enable a higher throughput while eliminating full time operators who are prone to shoulder injuries from the repetitive movement and human errors. With increased demand for testing, higher accuracy and improved quality control up to 100%, this instrument will help reduce the testing cycle and the overall cost per component. This integration goes hand in hand with the aerospace demand for increased safety, cost reduction, and extended service life of components to avoid catastrophic failures.
