Published purpose

The TRI-GEN approach to sustainable aquaculture is to identify and utilize physical characteristics that are unique to the local area. For Alberta there is the ability to produce natural foods for fish i.e. Gammarus shrimp, and also has a high Solar radiance and an abundance of freshwater ponds and dugouts for trout and integrated plant production. Our objective is to utilize the above resources for the summer production of Rainbow trout and plant products for local market opportunities. Producing Rainbow trout with an integrated plant system using a modified net pen and innovative air lift technology will reduce GHG/kg produced. The result is production of high value products produced in a sustainable manner.
